Influence shapes every human exchange. Parents influence children, and friends talk friends into better restaurants and worse marriages. Any conversation that changes a mind is an act of influence. A persuader argues in the open. A manipulator needs the mechanism of deception to remain hidden.
The scarcity era defended against manipulation with law. Fraud statutes and disclosure requirements stood in for the expert eye that most targets could not hire. The caller who claims to be your bank works a simple asymmetry. They run the script every day, and you are hearing it for the first time.
Superintelligence ends the asymmetry. Everyone consults the same intelligence, and that intelligence holds the bank’s own records and the shape of every scam ever reported. The defense wealth used to buy sits beside every person now. When everyone holds total information awareness, manipulation becomes a choice.
A person who can see the mechanism and stays has decided to stay, and the decision is allowed. They may let the salesman win because the pitch is charming, and they may follow a crowd because following feels better than deciding. Freedom of the will includes the freedom to be influenced on purpose. Seeing is always available, so staying is always a decision.
The same capability that exposes hidden influence multiplies open influence. A person with superintelligence can put an idea in front of everyone the idea serves, argued in its strongest form, at a reach that once required a broadcast license or a campaign budget. The admirable use of that reach is building, improving an outcome or adding evidence to a question people share, and the builder earns the esteem. Nobody makes anyone build. Audiences hold the same intelligence and check every claim as they hear it.
Some people will still try to manipulate, and their targets will see the script coming. Between people who can each see the whole board, influence arrives by invitation.
